Born in Birmingham, AL. Married to Robin Riddle for 5 1/2 yrs. Two boys, Cade (20 mo) and Ethan (2 mo). Graduated Samford University 2004 with major in athletic training and minor in nutrition. Graduated from UAB physical therapy program in 2007. Practiced in sports medicine and orthopedics for 9 years.
Specializes in
orthopedic manual medicine and currently on track to obtain manual therapy
certification by 2015. Enjoys teaching students and leading medical mission
trips to the Dominican Republic. Main goals in life are time freedom with his
family, adding value to others by challenging them to think differently about
life, and locking arms with people who wish to dream big in pursuit of what
they want out of life.
UAB Assistant Dean of Professional Development
Dr. Sandra Frazier attended medical school at The University of Mississippi where she also completed a pediatric residency and a fellowship in Addiction Medicine.
She came to UAB in 1994 and started The Addiction Recovery Program in the Department of Psychiatry. After serving as Medical and Division Director of this program for nearly 11 years, she left UAB briefly to pursue medical mission work in Costa Rica. In March 2007, Dr. Frazier returned to UAB in a newly created position as the UAB Health System’s Physician Health Officer. Her office, The Physician Resource Office, is dedicated to the well being of healthcare professionals and trainees not only at UAB, but throughout the state of Alabama. As of September 2011, Dr. Frazier’s program was transferred from the UAB Health System to the School of Medicine’s Department of Medical Education where she is now Assistant Dean of Professional Development.

Dr. Stephen W. Russell returned home to join the UAB faculty in July 2007 after eight years at the University Hospital in Cincinnati, Ohio, where he was Assistant Professor of Internal Medicine & Pediatrics. During his years in Ohio, he practiced Internal Medicine and Pediatrics, in addition to teaching medical students and resident physicians.
After graduating from Vanderbilt University, where he received a bachelor’s degree in History, he moved to Mobile, Alabama to attend medical school at the University Of South Alabama College Of Medicine. He completed his training in Internal Medicine and Pediatrics at both University Hospital and at Cincinnati Children’s Hospital Medical Center in Cincinnati, Ohio. After finishing his primary care training, he took an additional year of training as a Fellow in Rheumatology, learning about diagnosing and treating arthritis in adults.
Dr. Russell is board certified in both Internal Medicine and Pediatrics. He has currently worked at UAB Medicine Moody for 5 years. He is married to Dr. Gretel Russell, Pediatrician at Alabaster Pediatrics. They have been married for 11 years with 4 wonderful children. Molly 9, Denton 7, Ashby 5, Caroline 4.Dr. Russell is passionate about maintaining the health of children, managing arthritis and diabetes in adults, and monitoring disease in people of all ages. He is accepting new patients of all ages at the UAB Medicine Moody.
Wendy Denmark-Wahnefried, MD

Comprehensive Cancer CenterDemark-Wahnenfried joined the UAB faculty in March; she previously was a professor of behavioral science for M.D. Anderson Cancer Center in Houston. She obtained her doctorate in nutritional science from Syracuse University. She has consulted on review panels for American Dietetic Association, National Institutes of Health and American Cancer Society and is a Susan G. Komen Professor of Cancer Survivorship. She also holds membership and leadership positions with multiple professional and scholarly organizations including the American Society for Preventative Oncology, the American Association for Cancer Research and the American Society for Nutrition. UAB Wellness Director
Lauren Whitt, PhD is the first UAB Employee Wellness Coordinator charged with building and implementing a health management program for Alabama’s largest employer. She also serves as an Adjunct Professor in the Department of Human Studies.
Whitt specializes in the strategic creation, expansion and implementation of corporate wellness programs. Dr. Whitt develops health initiatives for UAB employees focused on preventive care, early detection screenings, lifestyle behaviors, and chronic disease management.
Whitt was an NCAA soccer athlete who completed her doctoral degree at Clemson University with an emphasis in life skill development. She received her undergraduate and master's degrees in Human and Organizational Development and Human Development Counseling from Vanderbilt University. As an intercollegiate athlete at Vanderbilt and Clemson, Whitt was a highly decorated, all-conference competitor who won a Pan American gold medal competing with the United States U-21 National Soccer Team.
